Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath informed media in Gorakhpur on Sunday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to launch projects worth Rs 10,000 crore in eastern Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.
According to the chief minister, Modi would inaugurate a fertiliser factory for Rs 8,603 crore, an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) worth Rs 1,011 crore, and a high-tech lab of the Indian Council of Medical Research-Regional Medical Research Centre (ICMR-RMRC) in Gorakhpur.
“The arrival of PM Modi on December 7 in Gorakhpur will fulfil the dreams of eastern UP that were neglected by the failures of the previous governments,” Adityanath said, adding that that the three mega projects constitute the biggest investment so far in eastern UP.
Lashing out previous governments, Adityanath said a fertiliser factory belonging to the Fertilizer Corporation of India (FCI) was closed in 1990 and no government subsequently paid any attention to it. After 26 years, Modi laid the foundation stone of a new fertiliserfactory in Gorakhpur in 2016, he added.
The chief minister claimed that because of these previous governments’ lack of concern for the people of east UP, the region’s identity was associated with floods and the encephalitis disease.
“In the last 40 years, over 50,000 children lost their lives due to encephalitis but our government has succeeded in controlling Japanese Encephalitis by about 75 per cent and death figures by 95 per cent in the past three years,” he claimed.
For a long time, there was no proper system in the region for the identification of vector-borne diseases such as encephalitis and dengue, and samples used to be sent to Pune, Adityanath said.
But now the RMRC lab established at the BRD Medical College would conduct advanced research on encephalitis, black fever, chikungunya, dengue and Covid-19, the chief minister added.
