13 patients in ICU die due to fire at a hospital in Virar

Maharashtra: Thirteen Covid patients admitted in the ICU of Vijay Vallabh Hospital of Virar after a fire broke out at around 3 am on Friday.

Dilip Shah, CEO of the hospital told, “Around 90 patients were admitted to the hospital at the time of the incident.”

“21 patients including those in critical condition have been shifted to another hospital,” he added.

PM Narendra Modi called deaths in Palghar district’s Virar “tragic”. The PM has approved an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 Lakh each from PMNRF for the next of kin of the victims who lost their lives and a sum of 50,000 to those who were seriously injured.

The statement from CMO of Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray mentioned, “He has expressed sorrow over the deaths. He has directed that other patients undergoing treatment should not be harmed and should be relocated immediately. After learning about the fire, the Chief Minister himself has spoken to the concerned officials and asked them to first of all give priority to extinguish the fire completely and ensure that treatment on other patients continues.”

“The cause of the fire should be properly investigated, he also directed the administration to immediately inquire about whether the fore safety was adequate and whether it was a private hospital.”
