Discovers Endometriosis Diagnosis Without Surgery

Endometriosis is an inflammatory disorder that occurs when tissue that typically borders the uterus develops outside of the uterus and onto other organs. According to the Office of Women’s Health, this illness affects more than 11% of women aged 15 to 44.

Menstrual cramps, pain during sex, intestinal issues, spotting, and infertility are some of the symptoms that patients may face. The exact cause is unknown, however it might be related to hereditary factors or immune system diseases.

“Initially, painful periods are not natural — there is still a stigma that women will endure. No, pain is never natural, therefore let’s do away with it “April Summerford, 36, said NBC New York.

During many visits to the doctor, she was assured she was normal and that she should just push through the discomfort. One doctor, in her experience, avoided diagnosing her with endometriosis just by recalling the statement, “I don’t want it to be endo because I can’t assist you.”

Summerford, a Fresno, Calif. native who has been battling infertility and the condition since she began her menstrual cycle as a teen, was one of over 1,800 women who took part in this research.

According to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, 30 to 50 percent of endometriosis patients may have infertility.

“Because illness severity does not correlate with disease symptoms, you might have a very serious condition with very minor symptoms. Then there are many who have no symptoms at all and find about their illness during an infertility workup or even during a C-section “According to Dr. Christine Metz of NBC New York.

Dr. Metz is one of the study’s principal scientists at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research. She is also the co-director of Research OutSmarts Endometriosis (ROSE), an initiative that began in 2017.

The researchers investigated menstrual effluent as a non-invasive method of diagnosing the illness and discovered cells in the blood that might distinguish between healthy and sick people.

“We were truly pioneers in investigating menstrual effluent in any situation. It had not been well researched before to our involvement, and it was really mainly examined for regenerative medicine objectives since the endometrium regrows every month, which contains stem cells “Dr. Metz stated.

These discoveries take us one step closer to developing bearable medicines and reducing the time between symptoms and diagnosis.

“The single treatment developed in the previous 12 years, like all other medicines established thus far, is hormone-based, and none of them address the condition. They deal with pain “Dr. Metz said.

Women’s History Month and Endometriosis Awareness Month both fall in March. The team is now on the lookout for the next round of participants.

25 of the state’s 30 districts registered zero Covid-19 cases

In a strong indicator that the epidemic is nearing an end in Karnataka, 25 of the state’s 30 districts registered zero Covid-19 cases on Monday. This is the biggest number of districts reporting no new cases in a single day since the epidemic began on March 8, 2020.

Bengaluru Urban (40 instances), Chitradurga (2), Kolar (3), Mysuru (1), and Yadgir (1) were the five districts that did register Covid-19 cases (2).

According to the health department bulletin, these were the districts that contributed to the total of 48 Covid-19 instances added to the count, which stood at 39,45,359 on Monday.

The state’s positive rating has fallen from 6.21 percent in the third wave on February 5 to 6.02 percent. The first two waves, on the other hand, had substantially greater positivity rate peaks.

The greatest positive rate recorded in the first wave was 12.54 percent on September 27, 2020, while the lowest in the second wave was 8.81 percent on June 4, 2021. On July 20, 2020, when the first wave of the pandemic was wreaking havoc on the state’s population, Karnataka’s recovery rate was a dismal 35.29 percent.

It peaked at 98.06 percent on January 30, 2021, when the wave was at its peak, before falling to 69.83 percent on May 11, 2021, when the severe second wave riding the Delta variety crested. On Monday, the recovery rate increased to 98.94%.

The number of active cases in the third wave increased from 9,386 on January 1 this year to 3,62,487 on January 24 – a 23-day increase. On Monday, the number of cases had dropped to 1,719 from the previous day. The dramatic increase in active cases has been linked to the considerably milder Omicron version of SARS-CoV-2, which was, however, more transmissible than the prior variations.

Study reveals that spirituality can enhance quality of life for heart failure patients

Study reveals that spirituality can enhance quality of life for heart failure patients

According to research headed by the American College of Cardiology, spirituality not only improves the quality of life for those with chronic conditions like cancer, but it also has an influence on heart failure patients.

The findings were reported in the journal ‘JACC Heart Failure.’ It goes on to say that spirituality should be regarded as a possible target for palliative care interventions in order to enhance patient-centered and clinical outcomes in these people.

Patients with heart failure have a lower quality of life than their counterparts, with higher degrees of despair, anxiety, and spiritual distress, said Rachel S. Tobin, MD, a resident in internal medicine at Duke University Hospital and the study’s primary author.

The fact that heart failure, unlike many other chronic conditions, is quite unexpected and can lead to despondency, loneliness, and changed self-image, he noted, contributes to a lower quality of life.

Palliative treatment is recommended for heart failure patients by the American College of Cardiology and other major cardiovascular associations. Spirituality is a key component of palliative care, with the purpose of recognising and resolving spiritual difficulties as well as connecting patients with suitable spiritual and religious resources. However, there has been little study on the influence of spirituality on people with heart failure, and there are no instruments available to quantify it.

According to the researchers, spirituality is difficult to define, but they cite various definitions that define spirituality as how people find meaning and purpose in their lives, which can be distinct from religious views.

The Institute of Medicine, for example, defines spirituality as “the desires and expectations that individuals have to find meaning, purpose, and value in their lives.” Such requirements can be religious in nature, but those who have no religious beliefs or are not members of organised religions have belief systems that give their lives meaning and purpose.

Researchers conducted a study of 47 papers to investigate the present state of information about spirituality in heart failure patients.

It discussed the links between spirituality and quality of life, as well as patient outcomes, and it proposed therapeutic applications and future prospects for spirituality in this group. There were around ten different devices used to test spirituality, some simple and others sophisticated.

Among the key data studied are:

1. According to FACIT-Sp, spiritual well-being improved in patients assigned to a palliative care intervention compared to routine care in the Palliative Care in Heart Failure (PAL-HF) experiment. The FICA spiritual history tool was also used to acquire spiritual information.

2. Patients who were randomly assigned to palliative care had a higher quality of life, according to the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (KCCQ) and the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Palliative Care (FACIT-Pal). They were also found to have decreased anxiety and sadness levels.

3. In another trial, patients who completed a 12-week mail-based psychosocial intervention had a greater quality of life as judged by the KCCQ, as well as less depression and a need for meaning. The intervention was deemed useful by 85.7% of the 33 patients who took part in the study. In a pilot study, spiritual counselling was connected with a higher quality of life, but there was no control group to evaluate if the impact was substantial.

Tobin said that the data shows that spirituality might not only enhance the patient’s quality of life, but it can also benefit caregivers and perhaps prevent heart failure patients from needing to be readmitted to the hospital.

We have proposed and are now developing a spirituality screening instrument comparable to those used to test for depression. This can be used to identify individuals in palliative care with heart failure who are at risk of spiritual distress. However, this is only the beginning. More investigation is required. “He reached a conclusion.

In Singapore, doctor was caught injecting saline solution instead of Covid vaccine

Singapore, doctor was caught injecting saline

According to local media, a 33-year-old Singapore doctor associated with an anti-vaccination group has been suspended after being accused of injecting patients with saline solution instead of the COVID-19 vaccine and uploading false vaccination statuses to the Ministry of Health’s National Immunisation Registry.

The Singapore Medical Council (SMC) suspended Dr Jipson Quah’s registration as a medical practitioner on March 23 for 18 months, or until the disciplinary processes are completed, whichever is sooner, the council stated on Monday.

Dr. Quah, a member of the anti-coronavirus vaccine team, Healing the Divide, was accused in court of conspiracy to defraud the Ministry of Health (MOH) by providing fake vaccination statistics.

According to SMC, on January 23, it received a complaint from MOH, which was forwarded to the Interim Orders Committee. The committee found that Dr. Quah’s suspension was “essential for the protection of members of the public and in the public interest.”

It was stated, among other things, that Dr. Quah gave patients saline solution instead of the COVID-19 vaccine and that he submitted fraudulent vaccination statuses to the MOH’s National Immunisation Registry to show that these patients had been vaccinated against the illness.

According to the committee, he was reportedly “grossly overpriced” for providing these individuals with saline solution instead of the vaccination.

Dr. Quah is also accused of creating a bogus patient account and posting a bogus COVID-19 antigen rapid test (ART) result for an unvaccinated patient to the MOH’s portal.

According to SMC, he reportedly gave the patient a letter in order for the patient to be excused from vaccination-differentiated safe management measures.

The doctor is also accused of assisting the uploading of pre-event testing (PET) findings acquired by remote PET that were “not done in compliance” with the current laws, according to the council.

“Dr. Quah’s acts have public health ramifications and demonstrate his inability to maintain the highest moral integrity and intellectual honesty, as well as to safeguard and promote the health of people and the community,” added SMC.

The council stated that investigations are underway and that an independent complaints committee has been formed to look into the situation.

Dr. Quah’s assistant, Thomas Chua Cheng Soon, has also been charged with conspiracy to mislead MOH.

Separately, Healing the Divide founder Iris Koh is charged with two counts: conspiracy with Quah and hindering a police inspector by refusing to sign and shredding up a copy of her statement.

On January 21, Dr. Quah, his assistant, Thomas Chua, 40, and Iris Koh, were detained.

On January 31, he was accused in court and given bail of SGD20,000.

Police preliminary investigations found that Koh, 46, allegedly introduced customers to Dr. Quah and Chua.

According to court filings, Dr. Quah and Mr. Chua fraudulently claimed to MOH that a woman called Mehrajunnisha had received the Sinopharm vaccination when she had not.

According to The Straits Times, four clinics owned or operated by Dr. Quah were handed suspension notices and had their permits to administer COVID-19 fast testing removed.

Dr. Quah was also suspended from his part-time job as a laboratory director at the Diagnostics Development Hub’s clinical diagnostics lab, which is financed by the National Research Foundation and supervised by the Agency for Science, Technology, and Research.

Thermo Fisher Scientific, which owns biomedical business PPD Global Central Lab, where Dr. Quah was listed as a director, also placed him on leave, according to The Straits Times.

Meanwhile, Singapore recorded 4,925 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, including 112 imported infections, or those entering from outside the country.

Four people died as a result of coronavirus complications, bringing the total number of deaths from coronavirus complications to 1,254.

Doctor’s Appointment to be scheduled with the help of google?

by Medically Speaking March 29, 2022

written by Medically Speaking

Doctor’s Appointment to be scheduled with the help of google :

In a forthcoming update, Google will enable consumers to explore medical office availability calendars and book appointments straight through Search.

To build the capability, Google is even collaborating with CVS Health, one of the country’s major medical providers. Hema Budaraju, Google Health’s Senior Director of Product for Health and Social Impact, revealed the announcement during The Check Up, the company’s second annual virtual event.

“When you’re arranging a doctor’s appointment, there might be a lot of friction,” she noted during the keynote. In the United States, the average wait time for a primary care visit is 20 days or longer. “Access to care should not be this difficult.”

The firm stated that it is in the early phases of implementing this functionality and is collaborating with partners such as medical scheduling solution providers and CVS’ in-store “MinuteClinic” general practise clinics.

Budaraju displayed a snapshot of the “Appointments” function, which displays a number of schedule availability options with the opportunity for a user to book an appointment. According to her, the tool can be beneficial for a parent seeking a same-day appointment for their sick child or for someone looking for a new doctor following a relocation.

It’s not the only change Google has made to help Americans plan medical appointments: Google will release another search upgrade in December 2021 that will assist users in finding doctors or healthcare providers that accept their health insurance plans or speak their chosen language.

The Covishield dose gap will remain at 12-16 weeks: Govt

by Medically Speaking March 29, 2022

written by Medically Speaking

The Covishield dose gap :

For the time being, the health ministry is not altering the interval between the two doses. When COVID-19 inoculation began in India in January 2021, the interval between two doses of Covishield was 4-6 weeks, then increased to 6-8 weeks. On the proposal of the NTAGI, the government increased the time gap for the most commonly used COVID-19 vaccination in the country from 12-16 weeks to 8-16 weeks in May. This month, the gap was reduced to 8-16 weeks of Covishield, “a central government official familiar with the situation said on condition of anonymity.

On March 20, the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization proposed reducing the time between the two Covishield doses from 12–16 weeks to 8–16 weeks.

Another official stated, “There was no immediate perceived need to modify the dosing schedule.” Refusing to be identified Because it is a dynamic issue, there is always the prospect of future policy modification based on what the circumstances justify at the moment. For the time being, the current gap remains.

When the interval between dosages was raised previously, there were suspicions that it was done to cover up a shortfall, which the central government rejected. It was said at the time that the interval was increased for more effectiveness.

Vaccine supplies in India are presently in oversupply.

The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is manufactured in India by the Serum Institute of India under the brand name Covishield. It is one of two COVID-19 vaccinations used in the country’s COVID-19 immunisation programme.

The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, according to a World Health Organization expert panel, should be administered every 8–12 weeks, according to a World Health Organization expert panel. The strategic advisory committee of immunisation specialists provided these interim recommendations for the use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine on March 15.

Revising the gap will be ineffective in India, an expert said.

Indian medical students pursuing B.Sc. in Philippines are disqualified for MBBS programme

Indian medical students pursuing B.Sc. in the Philippines are disqualified for MBBS programme

The National Medical Council (NMC) has announced that Indian students studying for a bachelor’s degree in science in the Philippines will be ineligible for the MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) in India, potentially ending thousands of students’ ambitions for a medical career.

The top medical school body has received comments from medical students taking the degree in the Philippines, requesting an exemption to practise medicine in India. According to NMC, a Bachelor of Science degree is a pre-medical education in the Philippines that includes courses like biology and psychology, which are comparable to class 11th and 12th subjects in India. According to NMC, anatomy, biochemistry, biophysics, and microbiology are not taught as part of the degree in the Philippines, although they are essential to be qualified for MBBS in India, according to NMC.

Medical students in the Philippines can choose between two courses: a Bachelor of Science and an MD (Doctor of Medicine). Thousands of aspiring medical students from India travel to the island country each year to study medicine.

“This is for students who applied for medical study in the Philippines, especially for the BS programme, prior to the FMGL (Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate) Regulations 2021.” These students are unable to practise MBBS in India.

It describes the guiding concept for allowing a foreign medical graduate to practise in India and ensures that the foreign medical graduate meets the educational and training standards of an Indian medical graduate.

According to the NMC notice reviewed by Mint, “BS is a pre-medical course in the Philippines, and after completion of which the candidates must appear for the NMAT examination to seek admission to an MD course (Graduate/Primary medical course being equivalent to the MBBS course in India), which is of four-year duration.”

The pattern is a BS Course followed by an MD Course. However, in the BS Course, applicants are not taught courses such as Anatomy, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Microbiology, and so on, but rather Biology, Psychology, and so on, which is equal to class 12th in India. As a result, in Indian medical education, a BS course is a basic degree course preceding the start of a graduate or primary medical course. “The same does not even qualify an applicant for admission to MBBS in India,” according to the notification.

In India, the Graduate Medical Education Regulations 1997 state that candidates must pass the National Eligibility Cumulative Entrance Test (Undergraduate) to be eligible for admission to the MBBS programme, and they must have studied Biology, Chemistry, and Physics in grades 11 and 12.

According to the notification, “Regulations were not made/directed to any one nation, but to be generally applicable to all foreign medical graduates, with the sole purpose of preserving high standards of education and qualifying physicians in India.”

“The NMC, as the regulatory authority, is always striving to enhance the quality of medical education and the healthcare system in India, as well as to provide equitable and fair opportunities for people who wish to study medicine and, as a result, practise medicine in India.” However, practising medicine includes the risk of endangering human life, and the commission “can not compromise with the high standard and quality of medical education in India,” according to the notification.

PM Modi urges Ayush start-ups to put content online in all UN-recognized languages :

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged start-ups in the health sector, particularly those in the Ayush sector, to publish their content in all UN-recognized languages rather than only English.

The Prime Minister, in his latest episode of ‘Mann ki Baat’ today, underlined that the Ayush manufacturing industry is reaching around Rs 1.40 lakh crore rupees and expressed confidence that Ayush Start-Ups from India with better quality products will reign all over the world.

“I have a request for the start-ups of the health sector and especially the Ayush start-ups. Whatever portal you design online; whatever content you create, try to make it in all the languages recognized by the United Nations,” he said.

“There are many such countries in the world where English is neither spoken nor understood much. Promote your information keeping such countries in mind as well. I am sure that soon, Ayush start-ups from India with better quality products will reign all over the world,” he added.

Noting that the Ayush business is always developing, the Prime Minister stated that six years ago, the market for Ayurvedic medicines was around Rs 22,000 crore, but it has now grown to Rs 1.40 lakh crore.

“This means that the possibilities are continuously growing in the area,” PM Modi said adding that in the world of star-ups, “Ayush is becoming a subject of attraction.”

PM Modi on Sunday addressed the 87th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, which is his monthly radio address broadcast on the last Sunday of every month.

Many individuals enjoy combining green tea and honey. It is one of the most popular combos that allows you to experience the improved taste as well as the health advantages. The following are some of the potential health benefits of drinking green tea with honey.

Improves dental health: It is surprising to know that a sweet beverage can also benefit your tooth but according to many health websites, green tea with honey helps to reduce the risk of tooth decay. However, more research is required to define the amount of green tea that is good for health.

Manage diabetes: People with diabetes are suggested to consume sugar-free beverages, green tea mixed with honey comes as a healthy alternative. Some research shows it helps improve and control conditions. According to the research done by Pubmed, honey is much better for people with higher blood sugar levels than other types of sugar.

Reduce cold and flu: Warm tea and honey are known to be the best remedy for curing sore throat. Although when green tea and honey is consumed together they can help reduce the symptoms of cold and flu. It is yet not clear how much amount of green tea is required to control such symptoms.

Fight bad breath: Apart from green tea with honey and lemon being a superfood, it also helps fight bad bacteria and viruses in the mouth. Honey works as an antimicrobial that prevents the growth of bacteria. Polyphenols present in green tea helps keep the mouth fresh and odour free.

Healthy skin: Regular consumption of honey and green tea helps to eliminate toxins from the body. It provides enough vitamins and minerals to the body and rejuvenates skin with antioxidants present in honey and green tea.

Nutritional value of green tea

Green tea, when combined with water, is a beverage that provides no calories but is filled with nutrients, such as polyphenols and minerals linked to many health benefits.

Green tea is available in both caffeinated and decaffeinated varieties. While everyone reacts differently to caffeine, evidence suggests that moderate caffeine consumption may provide certain benefits, such as improved focus, and may lessen your risk of chronic diseases.

Green tea and matcha, a type of tea brewed from the same leaves, are high in antioxidants and other substances that have been found to lower the risk of some malignancies, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and neurological diseases.

Drinking green tea may also reduce stress, which offers mental health benefits. This effect may be related to green tea’s L-theanine content.

Initial research on L-theanine, a compound found in green tea and other plant foods, suggests that it may reduce anxiety and stress, and it’s being investigated for other potential mental health benefits.

In addition to combating stress, lower-caffeine green tea has been shown to improve sleep quality, which can support better overall health.
