Doctors performed rare surgery to remove 8cm tumor

A team of Doctors in Zen Multispeciality Hospital has performed the rare and complicated surgery by removing 8cm tumor from the esophagus of a 43-year-old patient. The successful surgery has been done by team of doctors headed by Dr. Roy Patankar who is Director and Gastroenterologist, at Zen Multispeciality Hospital said “On arrival in an emergency the patient was vomiting and found it difficult to breathe. An endoscopy carried out suggested that there was a tumor located in the food pipe. A tumor may occur when the cells in the lining of the esophagus grow out of control. It was later confirmed to be a rare kind of tumor called leiomyoma.”

After surgery the patient has been discharged after the surgery, he can also eat and swallow properly. Before surgery, it was difficult for patients to eat and gulp the food. He was also having acid reflux happens in the upper portion of the abdomen.

The patient was successfully treated by using the laparoscopic method to remove the tumor from the food pipe that is the esophagus. During surgery, an endoscopy was done to see the tear in the food pipe.
