In the wake of an increase in COVID-19 cases in the country, Delhi Health Minister Dr Satyendra Jain claimed on Wednesday that the severity of COVID-19 cases has been significantly decreased and that the government is prepared with an adequate number of hospital beds.

“There are approximately 5,000 active COVID cases in Delhi, but hospital admissions are very few because the entire population of Delhi is vaccinated, and the severity of the infection is also decreasing because most of the people were already infected with it,” Jain told ANI after visiting the kin of two deceased corona warriors. In Delhi, we have 10,000 beds, but only 100 of them are occupied. We will increase the number of beds if necessary, “he said.

In terms of the severity among Delhi’s children, he stated, “on the basis of regularly performed sero-surveys, we observed that the likelihood of infection in children is equivalent to that of adults, but considering its severity, the requirement for hospital admission is quite low.”

He further stated that preparations for providing the Booster Dose to Delhi residents are now ongoing.

According to a health bulletin issued by the Delhi government on Monday, the national capital recorded 1,204 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of active cases in the national capital to 4,508.
