An infant girl was allegedly sold for Rs 65,000 by a man posing as a doctor and running a private nursing home in Bihar. Further investigation found that a human trafficking ring has been operating in Bihar’s Kosi district.

RK Ravi, the accused, was running an unregistered nursing facility called Baba Vishnu Raut Hospital in Bihar’s Madhepura area, with an unskilled staff.

The alleged human trafficking racket was busted after the police received a tip-off. After being alerted, Madhepura district magistrate (DM) Shyam Bihari Meena formed a team under Udakishunganj sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Rajiv Ranjan Kumar Singh to investigate the allegations.

Ravi and one of his staffers – Navin Kumar – were arrested when they were accepting Rs 65,000 in exchange for an infant born at the hospital. The infant was later shifted to the Madhepura sadar hospital. Reportedly, Ravi had forged educational documents to pose as a doctor. The doctor and Kumar were booked under section 372 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for trafficking minors, Hindustan Times reported.
