Adar Poonawalla, CEO of the Pune-based Serum Institute of India, stated on Wednesday that the COVID-19 vaccination Covovax is available to anybody above the age of 12.

A lot of you have asked if Covovax is available for adults. The answer is yes, it is available for everyone above the age of 12, “Poonawalla tweeted. This comes a day after Poonawalla announced on Twitter that Covovax is now available for children in India.

In India, Covovax (Novavax) is now available for children in India. This is the only vaccine manufactured in India that is also sold in Europe and has an efficacy of 90 per cent. This is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of providing yet another vaccine to protect our children, “he said in a tweet.

The National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) last week authorised the Serum Institute of India’s Covovax COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 12 to 17.

In December of last year, the government approved Covovax for limited usage in an emergency circumstance.

Meanwhile, many Twitter users complained that the Covovax option is not available on the CoWIN app for vaccine recipients aged 18 and up.

If the 18 and over tab is chosen, the Cowin does not make Covovax an option. Hopefully, this will be investigated, “a user stated.”

Another user commented on an image of the CoWIN app, saying, “Check this out. When we pick the 18 & above option in the CoWIN app, the Covovax option gets faded, i.e. disabled, while 4 other alternatives are highlighted, i.e., Covishield, Covaxin, Sputnik, ZyCov-D.”
